PREREQUISITE:  W303.  Permission of instructor.

3167 - 2:30p-5:00p T (15 students) 3 cr.

This course is a workshop in writing poetry which will allow
students to explore a wide variety of forms, meters, and poetic
genres.  Students will write catalogue poems, prose poems, poems in
couplets, poems in terza rima, ghazals, pantoums, odes and praise
songs, sonnets, elegies and aubades based on exercises in Wendy
Bishop’s Thirteen Ways of Looking for a Poem.  No tests or exams,
but students will submit work to a magazine as a final project.   No
auditors.  Students must make copies of their poems for every one in
the class.

Approval of instructor is required for admission.  To apply, submit
five poems and a list of creative writing courses you’ve taken (and
names of instructors) by attachment to my email address
stanton@indiana.edu at least one week before your registration day.
Submit your manuscript as soon as possible, as places will be filled
as qualified people apply—if you have a late registration date,
apply at the beginning of the period to reserve a space.
