History and Philosophy Of Science | Contemporary Issues in Bioethics
X123 | 9452 | Laura Seger

This course investigates the relations between biology and ethics
and their impact on public policy. No prior experience in biology
or philosophy is required. The beginning of the course will provide
an introduction to critical reasoning in ethics and an overview of
major ethical theories. We will then focus on specific debates
located within three main areas of bioethics: beginning and end of
life issues, biotechnology, and biomedical research and public
health. We will aim first to understand and then to critically
evaluate these debates.
