This course is an overview of the development of modern Jewish
thought, seen from a social and historical perspective. We will be
studying the writings of 18th, 19th and 20th century thinkers on
such topics as Judaism and the Enlightenment, Judaism and the
Concept of Historical Progress, The Religious Streams of Modern
Judaism, Judaism as Civilization and of
course Judaism and the Holocaust.
