L700 Mood, Modality, and Negation

In this seminar we will investigate mood (a grammatical category)
and modality (a semantic notion) and how they are expressed cross-
linguistically. This will include examination of epistemic and
evidential modalities, as well as deontic modality. Although the
focus will be on affirmative expressions, we will also consider
interaction with negation. Students will develop a paper on a topic
of their choice.
