The objective of this course is to understand current social
problems, causes and consequences using a sociological framework.
We will also discuss policies for alleviating these social
problems. Students will develop the skills necessary to read,
write, and think critically and analytically about social problems.
The current social problems that we will cover fall under five main
categories: inequality, institutional problems, deviance, health
problems, and globalization in the 21st century.
