Speech and Hearing Sciences | Speech Comm. Aging & Hearing Impair
S777 | 29859 | Larry Humes

This course is a readings-based seminar focused on aging, speech
communication and hearing loss. About one-third of older adults
have significant hearing loss which impairs everyday communication,
especially in background noise. Aging can also have negative
effects on the central portions of the auditory system and on
cognition, each of which may also impair everyday communication in
noise in older adults. This seminar reviews the research literature
on these topics, as well as the benefits from intervention with
hearing aids in older adults.
