This course examines key issues of contemporary Africa, allowing
students to view Africa as a complex, captivating, emerging and
diverse continent. It is designed to present an introduction to
African culture, politics, history, economy and to explore
opportunities and challenges facing Africa in an increasingly
globalized world.
We will use an interdisciplinary framework, drawing on recent
scholarship in History, Politics, Cinema, Economy, Music, and Women
Studies to understand the African experience. Students will learn
more about Sub-Saharan Africa and will gain necessary tools to
develop skills at reading, analyzing and writing within the
interdisciplinary approach of African Studies.
