Anthropology | Proseminar in Archaeology
P500 | 27779 | Scheiber

The graduate seminar is a required course for all graduate students in
archaeology (as of 2005), and is open to other students in
anthropology and in other departments who are interested in the
history and theory of archaeological practice. ANTH P500 will expose
students to the historical and theoretical foundations of contemporary
anthropological archaeology. The course will briefly cover major
events and theories in the subdiscipline during the early to mid
twentieth century before focusing on recent paradigms and contemporary
archaeological thought. Regular discussions and extensive readings
are required components of this class. Students are expected to
attend all classes, to participate, and to be prepared for discussion.
In addition, two short essays and a take-home final exam will be
required during the course of the semester.
