Ecology is the scientific study of how organisms interact with each
other and their environment, and as such ecology can be viewed as
the theater within which the evolutionary play takes place. In this
introductory course, students will integrate individual, population
and community level processes to understand the factors which
influence these interactions over different spatial and temporal
scales. This course will provide an opportunity for students to
learn about ecological patterns and the mechanisms that generate
those patterns. In addition, the course will enable students to
develop an improved understanding of ecological concepts that can
provide a foundation for thinking critically about present and
future environmental issues.
