The course education and childhood deals with the history of
education and ideas on children, youth and childhood in China from
the late imperial times until today. Childhood and youth are
concepts, that are historically changing as well as socially and
culturally formed.
Based on philosophical texts, educational texts, essays, primers,
literature and visual arts childhood/youth will be analyzed from
different angles and viewpoints to contribute to an understanding of
China’s more recent social and cultural history.
