This class meets with WEUR W406.  The course is a broad introduction
to major moments in French politics, society and culture form the
aftermath of the 1789 Revolution to the postcolonial era. Key moments
include the First and Second Empire, Romanticism, the Paris Commune,
the Dreyfus Affair, Impressionism, First and Second World Wars,
feminism, May 1968, decolonization, immigration, and France's role in
the European Union.  Prerequisite:  F 300.   Above class carries
Culture Studies credit.   Above class carries A & H distribution
credit.
