A379 | 18960 | N. Cullather

Above class open to undergraduates and Educaton MA's only; a portion
reserved for majors. Meets with AMST-A 300.

It was the twentieth century’s most illustrious family, an American
dynasty with immigrant roots. Even while Jack, Bobby, and Teddy
were children, the Kennedy home in Boston was a mandatory stop for
visiting Hollywood stars, presidents, and popes. As Catholics they
were always outsiders in the elite world they sought to dominate,
and their victories stoked resentment and ultimately violence. This
course follows the Kennedy clan from its origins in Ireland to the
White House and the Senate. Wealth, celebrity, immigration,
religion, liberalism, assassination, and war will be its main
themes.
