S451 Motivated Cogntive States

TOPIC: Motivated Cognitive States: Presence, Transportation, Flow

This course will bring together theories of chaos, biological
systems, media processing, cognitive science, emotion, and
psychophysiology in an attempt to explain the concepts like
enjoyment, presence, involvement, and flow as motivated cognitive
states. The underlying precept will be that biology and media
structure combine to drive cognition and emotion. Various
combinations lead to different ways of processing which end up
feeling like fun or boredom or being there . . .It is hoped that the
combination of innovative theories and ideas coupled with inquiring
minds will lead to a sustained motivated cognitive state of
enjoyable involvement throughout the semester.
