Collins Living Learning Center | Introduction to North Korea
L120 | 30552 | Timothy Rich

North Korea remains perhaps the most isolated country in a world
becoming increasingly interconnected. This class intends to provide an
introduction to the history, politics, and society of North Korea,
through a unique blend of scholarly work, news reports, North Korean
art and propaganda, first-person accounts and documentaries. This
class has no pre-requisites and does not expect students to have a
background in any of these substantive areas nor a background on East
Asia-only an interest in North Korea. This class should provide a
balanced view of North Korea and the tools to understand the main
issues in contemporary North Korean politics and why this matters to
East Asia and the US. In addition this class will also expose students
to how the North Korean government views itself.
