French and Italian | The Structure of Picard
F675 | 32704 | Auger, Julie

In this course, we will familiarize ourselves with the structure of
Picard, an endangered Gallo-Romance language spoken in northern France
and southern Belgium. Even though this language closely resembles
French, it differs from it in many ways, some fairly obvious, others
rather subtle. We will discuss its phonology, morphology, syntax, and
lexicon. The objective of the course is double: make students able to
read it fairly fluently and give them a chance to research one aspect
of its structure. Requirements for the course are regular assignments
that will discussed in class and one term paper.
