History | The Dating Game: Sex and Courtship in American History
A200 | 32373 | Ferentinos

Throughout history, people have formed intimate relationships, but
the terms of these relationships have shifted over time. This
course examines the evolution of dating practices (both heterosexual
and homosexual) in the United States from the mid nineteenth century
to the present. We will consider how larger historical events have
affected even the most intimate details of people’s lives. In the
course of this exploration, students will also learn about the tools
available for uncovering the sexual past—including material culture,
primary documents, and oral history.
