This course will examine how history is used, both in the United
States and internationally, to pursue societal goals such as
identity, commemoration, and nationalism, and the controversies that
arise from these uses. The course will use a variety of media,
including historical works, fiction, popular writing, movies, and
television. The course fulfills the Intensive Writing requirement
and will involve completing at least 3 essays of at least 7 pages
each. This course is limited to students who have been admitted to
the Secondary Social Studies program in the School of Education and
who are enrolled in EDUC BB 341.
