History and Philosophy Of Science | Philosophy of Medicine
X320 | 29181 | Elisabeth Lloyd

In this course we will investigate the history of medicine and
public health, and philosophical issues involved in medicine. We
will consider the following questions: What is the relation between
the biological sciences, e.g., molecular genetics, and the practice
and theory of medicine? What is the role of Public Heath in the
increased well being and longevity experienced by 20th century
westerners? How has medicine changed as a result of biological
advances? To what medical uses can our newly-gained genetic
information be put? What ethical issues arise with our heroic
treatments in medicine?
