L398 Latin@ Literature, Film, and Art: Global Politics and Aesthetics
is a multimedia course that focuses on the ways that the U.S. Latino
experience is articulated within a contemporary, global context. In
this course, students will be exposed to a range of aesthetic
practices that have emerged in response political and social
concerns that have surfaced with some urgency within U.S. Latino
communities including immigration and migration; the new global
economy; activism and protest; the physical, social, and political
environment; and gender and sexuality. Though literary texts will
comprise our primary objects of study, we will also consider film,
murals, multimedia installation art, youtube clips, music, comics,
and other sources.
