Introduces students to contemporary approaches to second language
acquisition.  Topics include models of second language acquisition,
the human capacity for language and its availability throughout the
life span, developmental stages in the acquisition of new languages,
learner variability, and the effects of instruction.  Students will
examine samples of learner language and analyze them on their own
terms.  This course is appropriate for students who have studied a
foreign/second language for at least two years (not necessarily at
the college level).
