Introductory Turkish I
This course is designed for students with no prior knowledge of Turkish. The goal of the course
is to teach you the language skills you'll need in order to function in Turkish society. You will
learn to cope with such practical tasks as asking a favor or buying a ticket. Most of the class time
will be spent on listening and speaking activities. Homework assignment will include reading,
writing and speaking exercises. In addition to the textbook, we will use the following materials to
help you practice your Turkish and become familiar with Turkish culture: magazines, newspapers,
songs, poems, advertisements, maps, pictures and a CD-ROM program introducing to the
geography of Turkey.
You will also have an opportunity to speak and listen to Turkish by meeting Turkish students on
campus invited to our class. In addition, you will be encouraged to attend the "Turkish Table,"
the informal gatherings of those who speak or learn Turkish.
Textbook: Turkish I: A Communicative Approach, handed out by Instructor.
Tapes: Available in Language Lab, to be used in correlation with textbook.
Days and Time: Daily, 10:10-11:00.
