Sources for the Legend of Chinggis Khan
This course explores the research materials associated with the life and times of Chinggis Khan.
Much of the texts are translations from Mongol and Russian and include archeological, linguistic,
and historical analysis of the 13th century society that produced the Mongol military-industrial
complex behind the Mongol army. Students will come to understand that Mongolia was a
complex world of urban, military, religious, and social forces far more important than the pastoral
nomadic world usually portrayed in western texts.
