Advanced Uzbek I
The goal of this course is to improve students' Uzbek-language reading ability and to work on
problems of rendering smooth English translations. During the semester students should become
more familiar with the vocabulary and grammar used in contemporary Uzbek prose. To the
extent possible, texts will be chosen which relate to students' research interests. During the
semester students should acquire reading skills which allow them to read more quickly and with
greater comprehension.
Requirements: Students will be required to prepare for each class session. There will be frequent
quizzes. In addition, students will also be required to write four translations from texts which
have been covered in class. Each text should be approximately 1500-2000 words in English.
