Topic: Primitivism
A broad survey of various sorts of primitivism from the Romantic period to the present.
The first half of the semester will be devoted to the reading and critical analysis of the relevant
texts by Goldwater, Boas, human imagination, colonialism and nationalism.  Students are
encouraged to pursue projects related to their own topical, chronological, and geographical
interests.
