This course is an introduction to three dimensional (3D) form and
space, and their interrelation with structure, materials and
expression.  It is a pre-requisite to any other 3D studio course
and is part of the required Fundamentals Studio program for all
art majors.

Important Areas:  Includes line, plane, volume, geometric and
organic form, utilitarian and sculptural design, additive and
subtractive processes in various materials.

Goals:  Basic visual vocabulary and hand skills needed in future
studio work in art and in the many facets of design in the
environment.

Format:  Five structured projects followed by an Independent
Project are introduced and then built by all students during 3
hour work sessions.  Each project is concluded with a group
critique.  Outside work is expected.

Tests or Reviews:  Group critiques are held at the end of each
project.  Written evaluation of each student's work is provided
for each project.

Grades:  Based on effort and quality of work produced.

Attendance:  Absolutely mandatory!

Text:  No text.  In addition to a $55 lab fee for materials, 8
tools, some additional supplies are necessary depending upon the
student's Independent Project.
