Fine Arts | Art Appreciation
H100 | 1928 | Davezac

This course will introduce the non-specialist to the world of art. Its emphasis will be on how to
see and understand works of art within the context of the periods which produced them.
It will ask questions about the role art has played in given cultures; who its sponsors were; by
what standards it was judged; what the role and status of the artist was, and the techniques
available in a given period. Students will learn a new visual vocabulary which will enable them to
see and enjoy a variety of different styles, and to become familiar with the terminology used in
speaking about art.
Registration and attendance in one discussion section is required.
