Intermediate Mongolian I
The objectives of this course are to: 1) Continue expanding knowledge of Mongolian grammar,
especially with regard to syntax and forming complex sentences. 2) To increase vocabulary by
mastering word formation and bionomies. We will also begin reading material outside the
textbooks. 3) To improve fluency by giving oral presentations, participating in class discussions,
and role-playing in practical situations. 4) To practice writing by keeping a written journal. 5) To
improve pronunciation through in-class practice activities and through tapes. 6) To begin practice
in formal translation (and transcription where necessary.)
Required Readings: Our main textbook will be Mongol khel surakh bichig, which is available in
photocopy in the office of Central Eurasian Studies.
Prerequisite: The completion of U361-U362 or equivalent.
Tests and Exams: There will be a full period quiz at the completion of every lesson, as well as a
mid-term and final examination.
Days and Time: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 11:15-12:05.
