This is an introductory course in literary interpretation required of
Comparative Literature majors and recommended for other students
interested in the study of literature.  The course will  acquaint the
student with basic methods and concepts of criticism through close reading
of texts (lyric poetry, drama, short fiction) by major authors.  There
will be examinations, class presentations, and five short papers.
