This course explores the major discoveries of physics and cosmology,
particularly those of the twentieth century, such as Einstein's theory of
relativity, the quantum ladder, nuclear energy and the expanding universe.
It also describes recent technological advances such as lasers,
superconductors and cancer therapy, and discusses several social issues such
as the greenhouse effect and energy options.

The course is intended for non-science majors, the only pre-requisite being
one year of high school algebra.  Lecture notes (in book form) will be
available for purchase at local bookstores.  There will be weekly
homework--part essay, part calculational.  Final grades are based on
homework and three exams.
