to topics in cognitive science. Cognitive science is an interdisciplinary
field devoted to the study of intelligent systems, both natural and
artificial. Cognitive science synthesizes research from cognitive
psychology, computer science, linguistics, neuroscience, and philosophy.
Special attention will be given to: cognitive neuroscience, perceptual
systems, information theory, human learning, concept formation,
connectionist learning algorithms, genetic algorithms, reasoning, logic,
and philosophy of mind. Although the course attempts to provide a survey,
we will delve deeper into the topics than possible at an undergraduate
level. Students will be evaluated on the basis of two exams, several
laboratory exercises, and a final independent project.
