P: grade of C or higher in J202 or equivalent proficiency

This course is mainly focused upon reading skills: grammatical
understanding, vocabulary building, kanji recognition and comprehension.
Students will do close readings of texts in class and skim readings outside
of class. Materials in history, literature, social science, and popular
magazines and newspapers will be read. Oral/aural skills will be practiced
in conversation sections with a native speaker. The medium of instruction
will be Japanese and students will practice patterns and discuss the
contents of "home dramas" presented on video.
