The objectives of Sculpture I are to give the student a foundation on the basic technical and
formal methods of sculpture and to introduce students to the major historical traditions and
diverse methods of creating sculpture today.  The course expands on fundamentals learned in
3D Design.  Students will become familiar with the tools and equipment used in creating
sculpture and begin using basic techniques.  Additive and subtractive techniques taught
include: wood construction, steel fabrication, clay modeling, plaster mold-making and cold
casting, and assemblage.  Emphasis will be placed on the exploration of various sculpture
methods, technical execution, conceptualization and creative problem solving.
