Folklore | THE PERSONAL AND EVERYDAY IN FOLKLORE
F740 | 2322 | Dolby

In this course, we shall examine how the concepts of "the personal" and
"the everyday" have been used in the discipline and discuss ways in which
these thematic yet loosely theoretical terms have influenced both research
and applied studies in the field. Members of the seminar will be required
to lead a discussion of one topic on the syllabus and to write an
article-length paper exploring either concept in depth as an
historiographic topic or applying either concept in a field or research
paper. Prominent genres in this course will include the personal
narrative, life stories, and local and/or oral history as well as material
or customary folklore often included in folklife research.
