Physics I covers mechanics, fluids, and themodynamics. This honors section
differs from the standard calculus-based introductory physics course in
that it emphasizes collaborative learning and the use of computers. The
section is also more intense and covers material in greater depth. The
class will be taught in a room equipped with computers and data-collection
hardware. The room will be accessible to students in this course outside
of class time. Students will learn data collection and analysis
techniques. Data collection hardware will include ultrasonic motion
detectors, force probes, temperature probes, magnetic field probes and
other transducers. They will also use software to simulate physical
situations. Students will write a paper and present results in a seminar
open to members of the physics department.
