E270 Introduction to Scuba, and good health (E270 and E370 may be taken
during the same semester).
E370 Lab fee of $140 will be assessed at time of registration.
Meets one 60 minute Lecture and one 2 hour Lab per week.
National scuba certification program for recreational divers. Program
lecture and pool sessions to enable students to participate in the open
Develop knowledge of equipment, environments, communication, and related
theory of diving, as applied to the open water diving experience. Obtain
fundamental skills necessary for safe and enjoyable scuba diving prior to
open water diving experience. Provide open water experience in a controlled
manner, as required for national scuba certification, or provide student
PADI Open Water Diver Kit (Manual, workbook, logbook)
Students will meet during the regular scheduled lecture time. Additionally,
students will arrange lecture and pool sessions for completion of the
required sessions. These arranged sessions will be limited to 12 students
and provide for a better instructor to student ratio. Arranged times will
be announced by the instructor, based on three options indicated by the
student. Students must complete all required lecture and pool sessions,
pass the written exam, and satisfactorily complete the pool evaluation,
prior to the two day (4 hr/day) open water dive experience. The open water
dive experience is scheduled and conducted by:
Southern Indiana Scuba (SIS),
1023 South Walnut Street,
Upon completion of the required lecture and pool sessions, the instructor
notify SIS and students may sign-up for regularly scheduled two day open
dives (4 hrs/day), or request a student referral.
S/F grade based on lecture, pool attendance and exams.
Students are allowed a maximum of three (3) absences. Upon a fourth
absence, the student has three (3) options:
1) receive a grade of F;
2) officially withdraw from the class;
3) follow an appeal procedure through your instructor and/or the Elective
IU will provide equipment for the pool sessions, however, student must
provide personal snorkel equipment for open water qualification dives.
Additionally, student must arrange for buoyancy compensator (BCD), and
exposure protection (wetsuit & weights), for the open water experience
