Non-HPER major:  participant in group exercise and/or strength and
conditioning

CLASS MEETING:
One 75 minute period two times per week.

COURSE DESCRIPTION, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of this course is to provide content knowledge and practical
experience concerned with teaching and evaluating of group exercise
sessions.
This course will assist you with acquiring much of the information needed to
pass
various national certifications tests for group exercise instructors.
Upon completion of this course, you will have knowledge of an experience
with:

Leading exercise in diverse group exercise settings.
How basic exercise physiology principles apply to a group exercise
session.
An evaluation tool for determining a safe and effective exercise
session.
An evaluation process for determining safe and effective individual
exercises.
Applying joint range of motion and muscle biomechanics to an exercise
session.
Music awareness and selection in a group exercise session.
Safe and effective procedures of various types of group exercise
sessions such
as water exercise, slide, bench exercise, circuit training, use of
resistance
equipment, etc.

GRADING PLAN:
Participation is one of the major learning objectives of the class,
therefore,
students are expected to attend all class sessions.  Two points will be
deducted
per absence if you miss more than two class periods.
