Recreational Sports Programming

Description: Exploration and examination of theoretical foundations and
basic skills, methods and techniques necessary to deliver recreational sport
activities within a variety of settings and/or organizations.
Goals: To gain an understanding of the basic competencies required to
program recreational sports including sport terminology, theories of
competitive and cooperative play and philosophical basis and values.
Several values will be devoted to tournament scheduling procedures.
Required Text: Mull, R., Bayless, K., Ross, C., and Jamieson, L. (1997).
Recreational Sports Programming (Third Ed.).
Other assigned readings will be available in a student readings packet from
the various bookstores.
Summary of Assignments: Exams and the submission of a program concerning
the program areas of intramural sports, informal sports, club sports,
fitness and instructional sports.
