This course is an elementary introduction to logic and reasoning,
employing the language of propositional logic. Topics include (1) basic
argument analysis, inductive and deductive reasoning, validity, soundness,
truth-functionality (2) the language of propositional logic, rigorous
methods of argument evaluation (truth-table test of validity and
truth-trees), translating English into logic and (3) proofs of arguments
in propositional logic. As time permits a brief survey of other
developments in logic, both historical and contemporary, will be offered.
The final grade is assessed through two exams, a final, quizzes and weekly
homeworks. Class participation is expected.
