R350 East Asian Buddhism (3 Cr.) TR 2:30-3:45 BH 109(section 3736)
(McRae)* Carries COAS Culture Studies Credit

R350 explores the Buddhist religion as it moved across the East Asian
cultural region of China, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. We will focus
primarily on China and Japan, but with special attention to features of
sub-continental magnitude. We'll cover a range of doctrinal theory,
practical and devotional activities, and socio-historical issues. Both a
basic description of course philosophy and the syllabus of lectures,
readings and assignments are available online at www.indiana.edu/~r350/.
