The course will discuss theoretical bases of speech/language
assessment, including concepts of testing and measurement, formal and
informal diagnostic approaches. Topics such as testing, multicultural
considerations, interviewing and counseling, observational procedures for
assessing in the field will be covered.  Case presentations of childhood
speech and language disorders will be presented.  A textbook on
psychometric testing will be used, as well as a reading packet, covering
all the topics to be discussed in class.  Requirements include periodic
assignments (in class and home), a critique of a testing instrument in the
field, and four exams.  A required course for majors in Speech and Hearing
Sciences.
