Studies in Acting II/Topic: Classics

2:30p-4:15p MWF 3 cr. hrs.

Prerequisite:written consent of the instructor.

This topic is taught every third year.

Purposes of the course are to apply theories of acting to performance and to work with verse drama and heightened style.

T521 begins with a detailed study of one or more of Shakespeare's dramas, including idea, action, character, language, conventions, and stage history. Speeches and/or scenes are worked in detail. Theory and history readings and discussions are centered around those writing in Actors on Acting. Scansion and "elevated" language are the focus of performance work.
