This seminar will be a critical and historical examination of plays by women in Britain and America from the Restoration to 1930, with particular emphasis placed upon the contribution or departure from widely held cultural biases of the period. We will read and discuss selected plays and background materials as a class. Students will choose specific topics for in-class presentations, written reports, and a major paper.
