Classical Studies | Classical Mythology
C205 | 0972 | Long

An introduction to the chief topics
of the mythology of the Greeks and the Romans. The course
includes
readings in the ancient sources, both epic poems such as
Homer and the
Greek tragedians. There is an emphasis in the lectures on
how later art
has used the myths as a source of inspiration and on various
theoretical
interpretations of how the ancients bent myth into new
meanings. The
course format is almost exclusively formal lecture. There
are three
multiple-choice examinations.

Texts:

Stephen Harris and Gloria Platzner, Classical Mythology:
Images and Insights.

A course packet with detailed outlines of the lectures.
