Readings from Books 1, 2, and 6 of the Aeneid, with amounts
to be determined by the class’s
abilities. Attention will be directed to Vergil’s Latin and
syntactic and metrical issues. There
will be daily reading assignments, a midterm examination,
and a final examination. Daily
assignments will include scansion of the verse. Some
memorization required. Entire epic to be
read in English.
