We will examine the concepts of narrative, representation, discourse,
performance, intention, gender, race, and ethnicity as they relate to the
study of literature. The readings for this course include brief overviews
of the history and use of these terms as well as some of the theoretical
essay that defined or redefined these concepts. These critical texts will
be read in conjunction with literary works that illustrate the overlapping
and interdependent nature of these concepts.

Requirements include four 5-page papers, a final exam, and small group
presentations.
