P: grade of C or better in J301 or equivalent proficiency
The purpose of this course is to advance the student's skill in both
reading and writing modern Japanese and in oral/aural comprehension. The
MWF classes will emphasize reading and writing, and will concentrate on
grammatical understanding, vocabulary building, kanji recognition, and
reading comprehension. Both close reading from a textbook and skim reading
of popular fiction will be done. The TR classes will emphasize oral/aural
practice.
Requirements include periodic quizzes (both announced and pop), regular
homework, weekly summaries, a midterm exam, and a final exam. Steady
attendance and readiness to participate in classroom work are essential,
and will be considered in computing the final grade.
