title: DISSENT AND ACTIVISM IN AMERICA

This course will study the recent history, writings, and
representations of dissenting Americans--people who have refused war
or demonstrated for social change in movements for peace or against
social injustice. By analyzing the writings of activists, popular
songs, and representations of protest in news media and film, we will
attempt to trace what “dissent” and “activism” have signified in the
United States.
