This course will focus on Netherlandish painting of the fifteenth
century, with particular emphasis on the cultural centers of
Bruges, Tournais, Dijon and Brussels. Jan van Eyck, Rogier van
der Weyden, Hugo van der Goes and others will be examined in
detail, as well as such fundamental topics as patronage,
technique, the international art market, devotional practices and
iconography.
