Students will be asked to read a selection of poetry, two novels (one short
and one medium sized) and a selection of short stories.  The two novels will
be La Princesse de Chèves of Madame de La Fayette and Manon
Lescant of the Abbé Prévost. We shall focus on reading
these texts closely as literature.  The course will be conducted in French
and students will be asked to participate in discussion.  We shall have two
hour exams and a final.  Students will write two short (750 words) papers in
French.  The final grade will be based in written grades and on class
participation.
