French F313 is the first half of a two-course sequence devoted to a
comprehensive study of French grammar. The course makes ample use of
translation from English as a means of acquiring expressive skills in
French. Along with the formal study of grammar, particular attention
will be given to levels of style in written and oral expression and to
the distinctive differences of usage in French and English. Five readings,
drawn from modern French fiction, are studied for their language interest.

Harper's Grammar of French
Readings and Lessons to Accompany Harper's Grammar of French
Students should have access to a major French dictionary. A good
English-French dictionary will also be useful.
The course will be conducted in French, as are all courses at this level.
There will be two hour-tests and a final examination.
